OPPO F35 vs Vivo T5: Rs 4,000 Split, Clear Winner

OPPO did not give the F35 a soft launch. It dropped the phone at Rs 38,999 this morning, exactly one day before Vivo’s October 6 event, and aimed straight at the Vivo T5. That is not subtle. It is a punch with a date attached.

So let us treat the OPPO F35 vs Vivo T5 comparison the way it deserves: two phones, Rs 4,000 apart, both sitting in the most brutal price band in India. There is no third option here. One of them is the better buy.

The price gap is real, but it is not the whole story. The F35 5G starts at Rs 38,999 for 6GB/128GB, with an 8GB/128GB variant at Rs 42,999, and the open sale begins October 11. The Vivo T5 5G starts at Rs 34,999 for the same 6GB/128GB, and it has been on sale since September 9. A month on the shelves means festive discounts have already started eating into the T5’s price on Flipkart and Vivo’s own store, with bank offers pushing effective prices toward Rs 31,499. OPPO, being the new arrival, has no such cushion yet. For the full launch-day picture, our F35 launch story has the variants and sale dates.

Where the Vivo T5 quietly walks away with it

Start with the display, because this is where the price difference shows up first. The T5 carries a 6.83-inch 1.5K curved AMOLED with a 144Hz refresh rate and up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. It is the kind of screen you would normally pay Rs 45,000 for. The F35 answers with a 6.57-inch AMOLED at 120Hz. It is a perfectly decent panel. It is also, on every metric that matters, the cheaper one.

Then there is the chip, and here the gap gets uncomfortable. The T5 runs the Dimensity 7500 Turbo, which Vivo claims crosses 1.2 million on AnTuTu. The F35 runs the Dimensity 6360 Max, a solid mid-range part but clearly a step down. If you play BGMI at high settings, this is not a close fight. If you do not game at all, you will still feel the difference a year from now, when the faster chip ages more gracefully. Spending Rs 4,000 more for a slower chip is a hard sell, and OPPO knows it.

Cameras, then. The T5’s main camera is a 50MP Sony IMX882 with OIS, backed by an 8MP ultrawide and a 32MP front camera that shoots 4K. The F35’s rear setup is 50MP plus a 2MP filler, and there is no OIS on the standard model. (The Pro gets it; this one does not.) OPPO’s camera reputation is not new, we said as much in our Find X9 review, but on this phone the hardware tells a familiar mid-range story: one real camera and one decoration.

The F35 does strike back on the front camera, and it is a genuine hit. A 50MP ultrawide selfie camera with a 100-degree field of view and OPPO’s NaturalTone 2.0 skin-tone processing is the most OPPO thing about this phone. Group selfies at Diwali parties, full family frames, nobody cropped out. For a selfie-heavy buyer, this is the F35’s best feature by a mile. The T5’s 32MP front camera is fine. Fine is not a compliment when the rival’s headline feature is pointed straight at your face.

OPPO F35 vs Vivo T5 on battery: OPPO’s home turf

Here is where I stop and hand OPPO its flowers. 8,000mAh with 80W SuperVOOC charging, plus a 6-year battery durability promise. That is the F35’s whole pitch, and it is a good one.

The T5’s 7,050mAh cell is not small, and it is packed into a genuinely slim 7.99mm body, which is clever engineering. But its 44W charging is slow for 2026, and it slows down further next to OPPO’s 80W. If you are the kind of person who plugs in for ten minutes before leaving the house, the F35 wins this round without breaking a sweat. Two-day battery life is table stakes for both phones. The difference is how fast you get those two days back.

Durability tilts OPPO’s way too. The F35 carries IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings, all of them. The T5 manages IP68 and IP69, which is fine. But the full-house rating at this price is genuinely impressive, and for buyers who use their phones hard, it matters more than another 500mAh would.

A quick aside on software

Someone has to say this. The F35 ships with ColorOS 17 on Android 17 out of the box, ahead of several rivals still on Android 16. The T5 runs OriginOS 6 on Android 16 with a 3-plus-5 update promise: three years of OS upgrades and five years of security patches. OPPO’s out-of-the-box freshness is nice. Vivo’s longer commitment is better. I would rather have the promise than the head start, and so would anyone keeping a phone for three years.

The verdict: buy the Vivo T5, unless you are that selfie person

Category by category, it is not close. Display: Vivo. Chip: Vivo. Main camera: Vivo, thanks to OIS. Battery size: OPPO. Charging speed: OPPO, easily. Selfies: OPPO. Software support: Vivo. Price: Vivo, by Rs 4,000.

Overall winner: the Vivo T5 5G. It is cheaper, faster, has the better screen and the better main camera, and it is already on sale with festive offers stacking up.

Buy the OPPO F35 5G if battery life is your religion, if you charge in bursts, or if the 50MP ultrawide selfie camera matches how you actually use a phone. Do not buy it expecting flagship gaming, and do not buy it over the T5 as a general all-round phone. And if gaming is your thing at all, stop reading and buy the T5.

One more thing, and I mean this as genuine shopping advice. If you want the T5, buy it during the festive sale, not after. If you want the F35, wait for the October 11 sale and watch what the street price does in the first week. OPPO priced this aggressively, but the T5 set the bar a month ago, and the bar is higher than Rs 38,999 suggests.
