Maruti Record October Sales Hit 2.76 Lakh Units

Maruti Suzuki has just had the biggest month in its history, and the number is not close. The company sold 2,76,120 vehicles in October 2026, up 25 percent on the 2,20,894 units of October 2025, according to Business Today and The Economic Times, citing the company’s sales release of 1 November. It is the first time Maruti has crossed 2.76 lakh wholesales in a single month, and it caps a festive season in which every large carmaker seemed to set a record at once.

That context matters, because October was a record month for the industry as a whole, not just for Maruti. ETAuto estimates total passenger vehicle dispatches at 5.25 to 5.30 lakh units for the month, the first time the industry has crossed five lakh in a month, with The Economic Times carrying a similar estimate. Maruti alone accounted for roughly two in every five of those dispatches. When the market leader grows 25 percent in a month when the market grows around 14 percent, it is taking share, and Maruti’s senior executive officer for marketing and sales, Partho Banerjee, told reporters the company expects to gain around two percentage points of market share in October, according to ETAuto.

Maruti record October sales, by the numbers

Domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 2,12,384 units, up 20.5 percent year on year, Fortune India reported, quoting Banerjee. Include supplies to other manufacturers and the domestic figure rises to 2,26,248 units, up 19.3 percent, The Economic Times reported. The split inside that domestic number tells its own story. Utility vehicles, the SUVs and MPVs that now dominate Maruti’s showrooms, rose 26 percent to 97,787 units, while passenger cars, covering the mini, compact and mid-size segments, grew 18 percent to 1,00,877 units, Business Today reported.

SUVs doing the heavy lifting is no surprise. What is more interesting is that cars grew at all, and grew fast, in a market that has spent years writing off the hatchback. Festival buying clearly pulled in first-time buyers as well as upgraders, helped by the GST 2.0 price cuts that took effect in September and by dealers pushing stock ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali, which falls on 8 November this year.

Exports did as much work as showrooms

The figure that deserves more attention than it is getting is exports. Maruti shipped 49,872 vehicles overseas in October, up 59.3 percent on a year ago, The Economic Times reported. That is nearly one in five vehicles the company sold all month, and it means the record cannot be read as a purely Indian festive story. Maruti builds in India for the world, and October showed that export arm working at full tilt alongside the domestic push.

For buyers, the practical read is in the stock figure. Fortune India, quoting Banerjee, reported dealer network stock at just 12 days at the end of October. If you have tried booking a popular Maruti for Diwali delivery and been told to wait, that number explains why: cars are moving through dealerships almost as fast as they arrive. It also sets up November honestly. With Diwali falling in the first week of November, the peak buying window is short, and the question is whether retail registrations match these dispatches or whether dealers simply stocked early.

Second place changed hands, quietly

One ranking detail from ETAuto’s October table is worth pausing on. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, with domestic sales of 73,894 units, moved ahead of Mahindra, with 73,338, to take second place in the industry for the month. Both companies had record months of their own, as our reports on Hyundai record October sales and Mahindra record SUV sales showed, so this is not a story of one company stumbling. It is a story of how tight the fight behind Maruti has become, with three companies separated by barely 11,000 units in a five lakh plus month.

Maruti’s own April to October picture underlines the scale. Domestic sales including OEM supplies reached 13,72,771 units for the first seven months of FY27, up 29 percent, Business Today reported. That is the kind of base that makes a single record month look less like a spike and more like a company running hot into the year’s biggest buying week. Whether November registrations confirm it is the one number left to watch, and it will say more about real demand than any dispatch record can.
