Let that sink in, because the iQOO 16’s display might be the most over-the-top spec on any smartphone this year. iQOO has launched its latest flagship in China, and it’s aimed squarely at power users and mobile gamers: Qualcomm’s newest silicon, a 6.85-inch 2K AMOLED running at 165Hz, and an 8,400mAh battery that dwarfs nearly everything in the segment. The iQOO 16 price in India hasn’t been announced yet, but expect news in the coming weeks. Indian buyers should pay attention, because this one could genuinely shake up the premium Android race.
A 165Hz 2K display. Why?
The headline feature is the screen: a 6.85-inch 2K (3168×1440) LTPO AMOLED built on Samsung’s latest M16 material, with an adaptive refresh rate up to 165Hz. It supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, covers 1.07 billion colours with DCI-P3, claims 10,000 nits local peak brightness with 2,800 nits in high-brightness mode, and uses 3,300Hz PWM dimming to keep flicker down.
Honest question: can anyone actually see the difference between 144Hz and 165Hz? Probably not. But iQOO isn’t selling to “probably”. It’s selling to gamers and spec-sheet warriors, and in that market, the biggest number wins. The panel itself is legitimately excellent regardless of the refresh-rate bragging rights.
iQOO 16 Price in India: what the China numbers suggest
In China, the iQOO 16 starts at CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs 86,000) for 12GB + 256GB. Then CNY 6,799 (about Rs 97,000) for 12GB + 512GB, CNY 7,499 (around Rs 1,07,000) for 16GB + 512GB, and CNY 8,499 (approximately Rs 1,21,000) for the top 16GB + 1TB model.
It goes on sale in China in October through the Vivo online store, in three colours: Chasing the Light, Legend, and Racing Track. iQOO hasn’t confirmed an India date, but its flagships typically land in India within weeks of the China debut. Converting directly, expect the base model in the Rs 85,000 to Rs 90,000 band, though taxes could push it higher. Small aside: iQOO has a habit of pricing aggressively in India to undercut OnePlus and Samsung, so don’t be shocked if the actual number lands friendlier than the conversion suggests.
Flagship overkill, in a good way
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 is Qualcomm’s newest flagship chip on a 2nm process, paired with an Adreno 850 GPU and iQOO’s in-house Q4 gaming chip for frame rates and efficiency. Memory runs 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X Ultra RAM with up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. An 8,500mm² vapour chamber handles thermals, and you get Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, an IR blaster, and a 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.
Then there’s the 8,400mAh battery. One of the largest ever fitted to a mainstream flagship, with 100W wired FlashCharge and 40W wireless charging. Despite the enormous cell, the phone stays slim at 8.3 to 8.55mm and 222.5g to 229.8g depending on colour. Two days of use for most people, at the premium end, is a rare promise.
Cameras: three 50MP sensors, a large 1/1.3-inch main with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP Sony periscope telephoto with OIS. A 32MP front camera. Serious hardware that goes head to head with camera-first devices like the Vivo X200 FE. Durability: IP68 and IP69, a standard only a handful of flagships match. Software: OriginOS 7 on Android 17.
The real question
On paper, the iQOO 16 is one of the most complete flagships of late 2026. A 165Hz 2K display, the new Snapdragon silicon, an 8,400mAh battery: a spec sheet that outguns even the Nothing Phone (3) on raw hardware. The only thing that matters now is the iQOO 16 price in India. Get it right, and this becomes the default recommendation for performance-hungry buyers.
