Jio IPO Allotment Today: How to Check Your Shares

Somewhere in India this morning, 1.39 crore people will wake up and do the same thing: open a registrar website and refresh it. They all applied for the same issue, and today is the day most of them find out they did not get it. That is the strange arithmetic of the Jio IPO allotment, finalised today, Monday, October 26. When demand runs more than twenty-two times the shares on offer, allotment day is less a celebration than a lottery result.

The issue itself already rewrote the record books. Jio Platforms’ Rs 30,213 crore offer, which closed on October 23 after a three-day bidding window, ended subscribed 22.19 times, according to BSE data. Qualified institutional buyers led the rush at 70.55 times their portion, non-institutional investors came in at 14 times, and retail investors subscribed 2.72 times. The final tally of roughly 1.39 crore applications made it the most applied-for IPO in Indian market history, per TradingView’s market report. The offer had opened on October 21 at a price band of Rs 1,065 to Rs 1,119 a share, with a lot size of 12 shares.

Your Jio IPO allotment status, step by step

The practical part is simple, and it is where most applicants will spend their morning. Allotment status can be checked on three official routes: the registrar KFin Technologies’ IPO status portal, the BSE website, or the NSE website. On KFin’s portal, select Jio Platforms from the IPO list and enter your PAN, application number, or DP client ID. On the exchanges, pick the equity IPO bid details section, select Jio Platforms, and enter the same details. Allotment guides cited by Techvala expect the registrar’s status to be visible by Monday evening, so an early-morning blank page is not a rejection, just a timetable still running.

Two dates follow in quick succession. Investors who miss out will see refunds initiated on Tuesday, October 27. Those who are allotted shares will find them credited to their demat accounts the same day, according to the offer timetable reported by Upstox and the Sunday Guardian. The listing itself is scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, on both the NSE and the BSE.

Two ways to read the grey market number

Then there is the number everyone will quote at lunch: the grey market premium. Reports on Sunday put it around Rs 247 a share, which against the top-end issue price of Rs 1,119 points to an indicative listing price near Rs 1,366, a gain of roughly 22 percent, per TradingView. That is a mood reading, not a promise. Grey market trades happen outside the formal exchange mechanism, the premium has swung between about Rs 148 and Rs 273 in recent sessions, and shares can list below the issue price. Treating it as a forecast is the easiest way to be disappointed on Wednesday.

The other reading is quieter and arguably more important. Nearly Rs 27,500 crore of the money raised goes toward repaying borrowings of Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom subsidiary, per Upstox’s reading of the offer documents. So this record issue is, in the first instance, a giant refinancing dressed as a growth story. That does not make it a bad investment. It does mean the listing pop, if it comes, will be priced on sentiment, while the long-term return will be priced on whether Jio’s AI and cloud bets earn back a Rs 10.3 lakh crore valuation.

One practical warning, worth repeating because allotment days breed fakes: check status only on the KFin, BSE, or NSE portals. Any site or message promising an early allotment result, or asking for money to confirm one, is not part of the process. The registrar does not charge applicants to view their status, and no genuine allotment message asks for payment details.

So today is a sorting day. A small fraction of 1.39 crore applicants will see shares against their name, most will see a refund on Tuesday, and everyone will watch Wednesday’s opening bell to see whether the grey market’s optimism survives contact with the real order book. The bidding answered how much India wanted a piece of Jio. This week answers what that piece is actually worth.
