Vivo’s next foldable is almost here, and the first headline about it is not the camera or the battery. It is the price. A fresh leak from tipster Abhishek Yadav says the Vivo X Fold 6 price in India will be Rs 2,19,999 for the 12GB + 512GB variant, with the phone tipped to launch on October 6 at the same event as the Vivo V80 and S2 FE. If that number holds, it is a Rs 60,000 jump over the X Fold 5’s Rs 1,59,999 India launch price. Vivo has confirmed nothing yet, so treat the figure with caution, but the direction of travel is clear.
Rs 60,000 more than the X Fold 5
Let us be honest about this. Foldables are expensive to build, and Vivo gave this one a bigger battery, a new 200MP camera system and a fresh chip. Some price increase was always on the cards. But Rs 60,000 in a single generation is not a nudge, it is a leap. At Rs 2,19,999, the X Fold 6 would cost Rs 40,000 more than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8, which sits at Rs 1,79,999 and already makes most wallets flinch. This comes as Samsung hikes prices in India too, so the premium segment is getting pricier across the board.
The counterpoint is that India pricing has rarely followed the leak script lately. The same leak trail that produced Rs 2,19,999 also suggested ranges of Rs 1.29 to 1.59 lakh a week earlier. Genuine uncertainty, not a conspiracy. And Vivo priced the X Fold 5 aggressively at Rs 1,59,999 last year while the China price sat at CNY 7,999, roughly Rs 1.05 lakh. Expect drama on October 6 either way.
The Vivo X Fold 6 price in India only makes sense if the hardware delivers
Fair enough then, what do you get for your money? On paper, quite a lot. The X Fold 6 went global on October 1 with an 8.02-inch 2K+ LTPO AMOLED inner display and a 6.51-inch cover screen, both running at up to 120Hz and rated for 5,000 nits peak brightness. That inner panel uses Samsung’s M14 luminous material, the same stuff going into the best OLEDs money can buy right now.
That 200MP Zeiss camera is the real story
This is the upgrade I am most interested in. Vivo has swapped the X Fold 5’s triple-50MP arrangement for a 200MP main camera with OIS and Zeiss T coating, joined by a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP 3x periscope telephoto with Zeiss APO certification. There are 20MP selfie cameras on both displays. Vivo will even sell you a 200mm teleconverter accessory for the phone, which is the kind of nerdy flex foldables rarely get.
A foldable with a 6,900mAh battery is new territory
Foldables have always made you choose between thin and long-lasting. The X Fold 6 refuses to pick. It carries a 6,900mAh BlueVolt battery, supports 80W wired and 40W wireless charging, and still folds down to 9.4mm while weighing 228 grams. For comparison, Samsung’s Z Fold 8 manages 4,800mAh. That is not a small gap, it is a chasm, and battery anxiety is the single biggest complaint foldable owners have.
Everything else: Dimensity 9500, IP ratings, a hinge rated for 600,000 folds
The 3nm Dimensity 9500 Super Edition handles performance, paired with 12GB RAM in the tipped India variants (256GB and 512GB storage; China got up to 16GB and 1TB, so we are getting a trimmed lineup). Dust and water resistance is IP58 plus IP59, which is genuinely rare on a foldable. The phone runs OriginOS 7 on Android 17 globally, while the China model shipped with OriginOS 6 Fold. Colours tipped for India: Prism Black and Nebula Teal.
October 6 is stacking up to be Vivo’s biggest day this year
The X Fold 6 is tipped to share the stage with the Vivo V80, which brings a 7,200mAh battery and Zeiss cameras to the Rs 63,000 segment, and the Vivo S2 FE, rumoured to carry a 10,000mAh battery under Rs 40,000. Three phones, one event, plus a teased Vision headset. Vivo is not easing into the festive season, it is kicking the door down.
My take: the hardware on the X Fold 6 is the most complete foldable package anyone has put together this year. The camera system alone makes Samsung’s foldable look like it is standing still. But Rs 2,19,999 would be Vivo pricing itself out of the conversation it started last year with the aggressively priced X Fold 5. If the final number lands closer to Rs 1.6 lakh, this becomes the foldable to beat. If it sticks at Rs 2.2 lakh, it becomes a very good phone for very few people. October 6 will tell.
