Samsung Galaxy A08 Price in India: ₹18,499 Shocker

Samsung just doubled the price of its cheapest phone line, and hopes you won’t do the math.

The Galaxy A08 launched in India today, October 1, at ₹18,499 for the single 4GB + 64GB variant. Last October, the Galaxy A07 launched at ₹8,999. Let that sink in for a second. The Samsung Galaxy A08 price in India is more than double what its predecessor cost a year ago, and the chip inside is still a Helio G99.

That’s the whole story, really. Not the launch. The price.

Double the price, nearly the same phone

Here’s the uncomfortable comparison. The Galaxy A07 launched at ₹8,999 in October 2025, then got hiked to ₹11,999 after the July 2026 memory price surge. Now the A08 arrives at ₹18,499, which is 106 percent above the A07’s launch price. What does the extra money buy? A 6,000mAh battery instead of 5,000mAh. An IP64 rating instead of IP54. Android 16 instead of 15.

What didn’t change: the MediaTek Helio G99+ chip, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and the 6.7-inch HD+ LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate. The parts that decide how fast the phone feels are exactly where they were a year ago. Samsung didn’t make the A08 twice as good. The memory market made storage twice as expensive, and the A08 is the first budget Galaxy priced from scratch in that new reality. You’re not paying for a better phone. You’re paying for a more expensive RAM chip.

The six years of updates are the real headline

If there’s one thing that justifies Samsung’s confidence, it’s this: six generations of OS upgrades and six years of updates on a ₹18,499 phone. Nobody else in this segment does that. The Redmi 17C 5G, which launched today at Rs 20,999 with actual 5G, promises two years of software updates and four of security. Samsung is offering triple that.

The A08 ships with One UI 9 on Android 16, and you get Circle to Search plus Gemini and Perplexity on a long-press of the power button. The build is honest too: Gorilla Glass 5 on the screen, a glass-fibre reinforced back, and an IP64 rating for dust and splashes. For a buyer who keeps one phone for five years, which is exactly who buys A-series Galaxies in small towns, that long support window is genuinely worth something. Cameras are a 50MP + 2MP pair at the back and an 8MP selfie shooter. Fine. Nothing more.

Let’s address the 4G elephant in the room

A 4G phone. At ₹18,499. In October 2026.

I don’t know how else to say this. Selling a 4G-only handset near the ₹20,000 mark this late in the 5G transition is a genuine letdown, and no amount of update promises makes the modem faster. The 4GB RAM is the other sore spot. Samsung will tell you virtual RAM helps. Virtual RAM always helps, right up until it doesn’t.

One small aside on Samsung’s marketing: the company is pitching an “Own @ Rs 24/day” offer. Do the arithmetic. That’s roughly two years of daily payments for a 4G phone with 4GB of RAM. Zero-interest EMI runs six months on bank cards and nine months via NBFC partners, if you’d rather get it over with faster.

Samsung Galaxy A08 price in India: who should actually buy it

The Samsung Galaxy A08 price in India makes sense for exactly one buyer: the person who trusts Samsung, keeps phones for years, and values long software support over raw specs. For them, six years of updates on a durable, IP64-rated body is a reasonable deal, and the phone is available across Samsung Exclusive Stores, partner retailers, Samsung.com and other online platforms in Dark Blue, Silver and Green.

Everyone else should look elsewhere. The Ai+ Pulse 2 FE hands you the same 4GB + 64GB configuration at Rs 9,999. The Lava Virat Curve 5G launched at Rs 19,999 with a curved AMOLED screen. And if you’re already stretching toward twenty thousand, the Redmi 17C 5G gives you actual 5G for Rs 20,999. Also worth knowing: the Galaxy M08 and F08 are listed as coming soon with the same internals, aimed at Amazon and Flipkart. They’ll likely land cheaper. If you’re not in a hurry, wait.

Samsung’s budget line used to be the safe recommendation. The A08 isn’t unsafe. It’s just no longer the obvious one.
